Ilha-Jardim
Stage design and workshop. Collaboration with Moradavaga
"When we were initially contacted by PELE to be part of the project,
included in the Collaborative Budget of Bonfim’s parish council, we were far from imagining all the
process that involved our participation in the realization of the play "Ilha-Jardim"!
The starting concept was that we would idealize some acoustic and playful structures to be implanted in
the Paulo Vallada public garden that could work per se and also integrate the dramaturgy that would be
created for a community show. However the concept evolved and these structures came to include the
construction of real musical instruments, which for us was as unexpected and ambitious as interesting
and challenging. Although demanding and overwhelming at times it was really rewarding to co-organize and
participate in the various workshop moments with different members of the local community (youngsters,
adults, retired and disabled people), and we are proud to have contributed to the fantastic final result
expressed in the public presentations, both in Paulo Vallada’s local garden in June and integrated in MEXE festival’s official program in Jardim de S. Lázaro
in September. Our notion is that the sense of community and self-organization is already quite rooted in
this neighbourhood so we felt a great motivation and availability and pro-activity from all participants
along the process."
