Faro
Interactive Installation. Collaboration with Moradavaga

"Moradavaga was invited to conduct a participatory workshop on the scope of the Creative Europe supported LUCity project in the city of Bari, Italy. The goal was to co-design, together with the participants, a temporary installation that revolved around light and that could act as a visual landmark for the entrance lobby of Officina Degli Esordi, a multifunctional venue in the multicultural neighbourhood of Libertà. After a first moment of reflection about the briefing and the local context Moradavaga teamed-up with (Fiume Designs), and defined a restrict set of materials to explore and work with: emergency blankets, steel cables, plastic tubes, recicled cardboard and RGB lights. After a very intensive brainstorming and experimentation two days period the group, composed by professionals and students from the art, cinema, design, engineering and architecture fields, defined a narrative and a design concept to be built on the following two days. “Faro”, Italian for lighthouse, plays on several metaphors and emulates in its conical shape a light beam that intends to ”iluminate” the urban surroundings while it makes reference to the Mediterranean Sea’s water reflections and transparencies, the sound of its waves and ripple, the human dramas that take place in its waters and the protection that a safe harbour provides as well as more mundane daily life features as the hanging clothes drying over the city’s streets that all serve to highlight the role of this space as a cultural and social center for neighbours of all walks of life."
